Sophie Xeon, known as Sophie, was a Scottish musician, record producer, singer, songwriter, and DJ. She died at the age of 34. Known for a brash and “hyperkinetic” take on pop music, Sophie worked closely with artists from the PC Music label, including A.G. Cook and GFOTY, and produced for acts such as Charli XCX, Vince Staples, and Namie Amuro. Sophie’s debut album Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides followed in 2018, earning a nomination for the Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album.

Sophie was survived by her parents and her half-sister.

Cause of death

Sophie died at around 04:00 local time on 30 January 2021, aged 34, at Attikon University Hospital in Athens, Greece, following an accidental fall from a balcony. A senior official in the Athens Police confirmed that the artist fell from the rooftop of a three-story building while attempting to take a photograph of the full moon. Sophie’s girlfriend said that “it took the police and fire brigade around 90 minutes to get [Sophie] out” before their arrival at the hospital where Sophie died.
